Listen to this week’s Sunday Session
“What is it that you truly desire?”, he would ask as he stared deeply into their soul with his brooding good looks and seductive energy. They would melt into a semi-conscious state, all soft and gooey then willingly recite their deepest darkest desires with ease. Now, of course, I am referring to scenes from a Netflix series called Lucifer, a sexy British man plays the devil himself moonlighting as an LA detective and a fancy nightclub owner. It’s all a bit of comical banter with a side of tall dark and handsome for kicks but in real life, it seems it’s not as simple as staring into the eyes of Lucifer Morningstar.
Let’s just pause there a minute before I make you stare into my eyes and share your deepest darkest desires with me…we will get there but first, can we talk about the archetypes commonly connected to desire in stories and mythology. The devil, a fictious master of darkness forever beckoning you to the temptation of your desires. While the sweet angels in their pure white innocence urge you to steer clear as if desire was a sin. Eros the son of Aphrodite and his Roman counterpart Cupid often wrapped up in the mischievous pursuit of desire with images of lust and pleasure as one perspective, then jealousy and deception as another. And what did Buddha have to say about this desire business? Well, he would tell us that Happiness will never come to those who fail to appreciate what they already have.” Fair call. Story has it that a man once said to Buddha, ‘I want happiness.’ Buddha said, ‘First remove I, that’s Ego, then remove want, that’s Desire.
Hhhmmmm who am I to question Buddha? But you know I’m going to go there anyway…grab your journal. Let’s dive in.
Desire: a strong feeling of wanting to have something or wishing for something to happen.
Manifestation: an incarnation of something or someone
What if the path to manifestation was first to truly understand and articulate your desires?
Thought experiment time.
First, let’s do a little letting go. We are not going to stay in this realm too long but let’s see if there are some areas we can clear, make space.
What feelings do you desire to let go of? Is there something heavy or lingering that has been taking up space in your head and your heart?
Write it down or let it swirl gently in your mind.
Is it a sensation in your body that you would like to let go of? A thought pattern that keeps circling back around? An energetic link to something or someone that needs some transformation?
What feelings do you desire to let go of?
Take a moment to imagine those feelings as a colour. Give the feelings and sensations you are ready to release a colour. Are they red and firey? White and icey? Yellow and active? Imagine the feelings as the colour and now sense their location. Are they on your shoulders? In your heart? Swirling around your head? Weighing down your feet? Focus on the feelings, their colour and their location. Now with the intention of clearing space kindly say out loud or in your mind “thank you (colour) (feeling) in my (location) return to the light, you are no longer needed” For example “thank you dark grey pressure in my neck return to the light you are no longer needed”
Repeat this three times as you visualize the feeling you desire to let go of releasing from your body or thoughts.
Take a deep breath and create an internal smile or a real one on your face and cultivate a new sense of lightness.
Oh hello, new space.
Ok now let’s get luscious.
What feeling do you desire to embody today? How do you desire to truly feel today?
Take a moment to write down or feel into the feelings you deeply yearn for.
How do you desire to feel?
Fresh. Sensual. Engaged. Supported. Courageous. Serene. Light-hearted. Deep. Energised. Turned On. Nourished. Strong.
When you snuggle into your desired feelings I want you to start to craft an image of this feeling. What movie starts to play in your mind.
Fireflies in the fields. Colorful brushstrokes on canvas. Smooth skin gliding together. Freshly squeezed juice. Clouds floating by. Clean sheets dancing in the wind. Salty hair and sandy skin. Rich green veggies. Writhing bodies on the dance floor. Lotus flowers blooming in the sun.
With your desired feeling gently pressing against you and its movie playing through your mind allow yourself to give it a sensation. Warm. Sweet. Tingling. Electric. Tender. Calm. Light. Open. Flowing. Fluttery.
Now look into my eyes and tell me “what is it that you truly desire?”
That. Right. There. That feeling, that movie, that sensation; dance into that. More. Deeply. Over and over.
It’s in this space that we get to dance with the Divine. This is where our souls reside. Let’s play here. Let’s stay here for just a moment longer. Together.
